{"id":5865,"date":"2023-11-10T18:19:41","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T18:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diskdrive33.com\/mks\/?p=5865"},"modified":"2023-11-21T13:19:22","modified_gmt":"2023-11-21T13:19:22","slug":"why-are-pandemic-fraudsters-going-unpunished","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diskdrive33.com\/mks\/2023\/11\/10\/why-are-pandemic-fraudsters-going-unpunished\/","title":{"rendered":"OPINION | Why are pandemic fraudsters going unpunished?"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Read Martin Kenney&#8217;s latest comment piece<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Published exclusively by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although well-intentioned, the U.K.\u2019s fiscal response to the COVID pandemic has been seriously flawed, creating huge opportunities for fraudsters to exploit multiple shortcomings of the various schemes offered by the government to help support businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Now Whitehall officials have admitted that only 2% of the cash from a \u00a322 billion program funding businesses during the pandemic has been returned to the Treasury in the last three years.<\/p>\n<p>This is \u00a321 billion of taxpayers\u2019 money gone. This is a staggering sum, and particularly galling coming off the back of an energy crisis, a cost-of-living crisis and recession warnings threatening the U.K. economy.<\/p>\n<p>The U.K. is not alone in this mess.
