{"id":4083,"date":"2021-01-28T11:24:33","date_gmt":"2021-01-28T11:24:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diskdrive33.com\/mks\/?p=4083"},"modified":"2021-01-28T11:48:21","modified_gmt":"2021-01-28T11:48:21","slug":"first-ever-martin-kenney-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diskdrive33.com\/mks\/2021\/01\/28\/first-ever-martin-kenney-award\/","title":{"rendered":"NEWS: Inaugural Martin Kenney Award for \u2018Outstanding Contribution to the Study of Financial Investigation\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>We are pleased to announce the very first winner of the new Martin Kenney Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Study of Financial Investigation, presented in collaboration with the University of Central Lancashire\u2019s (UCLan) School of Justice in the UK.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This inaugural award has been presented to <strong>Nelda Biltauere,<\/strong> payments and fraud manager for fashion retailer Boohoo, who completed an MSc in Financial Investigation at UCLan\u2019s prestigious School of Justice last year.<\/p>\n<p>The award, named in honour of one of the world\u2019s most accomplished anti-fraud lawyers, <b>Martin Kenney<\/b>, will be presented each year to one outstanding graduate from the School of Justice\u2019s Financial Investigation MSc.<\/p>\n<p>Kenney, who runs a specialist asset recovery law firm in the BVI (described by <b>WIRED<\/b> magazine as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.co.uk\/article\/follow-the-money-the-worlds-sharpest-fraudbusters\"><b>\u201cthe world\u2019s sharpest fraudbusters\u201d<\/b><\/a>), said he was delighted to join forces with UCLan and to be able to encourage students researching a topic close to his heart.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Martin Kenney said:<\/b><\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cI\u2019m delighted to present the inaugural award to Nelda for her excellent work.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cShe has done really well to recognise that financial investigation isn\u2019t a subject in which you can obtain a Masters degree and then rest on your laurels.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cI have been at the sharp end of investigating fraud and asset recovery for thirty years now and I am still constantly learning.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cThat\u2019s why it\u2019s so important to encourage, recognise and train the next generation of fraud fighters, those like Nelda entering the profession right now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cShe is to be congratulated for her hard work in winning this award and hopefully our professional paths will cross in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3><b>Nelda Biltauere said:<\/b><\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019m beyond honoured to receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/diskdrive33.com\/mks\"><b>Martin Kenney<\/b><\/a> Award 2020 for my contribution to the study of Financial Investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c2020 was a challenging year, but we\u2019ve also seen some substantial developments and initiatives tackling financial crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe it is vital to ensure that we keep up to date with the constantly changing aspects of financial crime threats and sharing this is very important to encourage the change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am grateful for being able to contribute to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/school\/12693\/?legacySchoolId=12693\"><b>University of Central Lancashire<\/b><\/a> Alumni network group and very pleased to receive this recognition of one of the world&#8217;s leading lawyers.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><b>School of Justice Financial Investigation course leader, former Detective Superintendent Dave Brian, added:<\/b><\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019d like to congratulate Nelda on winning the prestigious Martin Kenney Award. Securing Martin Kenney as our award sponsor is a real honour, as he is globally renowned in his field and regularly cited by our students in their essays and dissertations.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>The Award<\/b><\/p>\n<p>2020\/1 marks the very first year of the <b>Martin Kenney Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Study of Financial Investigation.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The award is presented to one outstanding student from UCLan\u2019s School of Justice Financial Investigations MSc each year.<\/p>\n<p><b>Martin Kenney<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/diskdrive33.com\/mks\"><b>www.martinkenney.com<\/b><\/a><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The award is made in the name of Irish-Canadian national, Martin Kenney, widely-regarded as being one of the world\u2019s leading asset recovery lawyers and an expert in combatting complex multi-jurisdictional fraud and insolvency cases.<\/p>\n<p>Martin has been ranked as the world\u2019s number one asset recovery lawyer offshore by <i>Who\u2019s Who Legal<\/i>, as well as one of a small number of elite global Thought Leaders across the legal world. <i>Chambers &amp; Partners<\/i> also ranks him among the world\u2019s top asset recovery lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014 he was awarded the highest honour by the world\u2019s largest association of anti-fraud professionals, the ACFE (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners), when he was presented with the Cressey Award for lifetime achievement.<\/p>\n<p><b>UCLan School of Justice<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uclan.ac.uk\"><b>www.uclan.ac.uk<\/b><b><\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>UCLan (the University of Central Lancashire) and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uclan.ac.uk\/schools\/justice\">School of Justice<\/a> is one of the UK\u2019s foremost providers of fraud and financial investigation degrees.
